Mavic Air Quick Start Guide
Congrats on your new drone! Setting up the Mavic Air is pretty simple and will take about 15-20 minutes, maybe longer depending on firmware updates and your download speeds. Activating your drone will activate your DJI warranty and tie your drone to your account for logging flight records too.
Note: Activating your drone is not the same as registering it. Here in The United States we need to register drones of this size with the FAA. It's a pretty simple process and can be done online at anytime of the day or night.
Step 1: Download App, Power on and download firmware updates.
The first step in activating the Mavic Air is downloading the DJI GO 4 app. After downloading the DJI GO 4 app and charging a battery to 100%, remove the gimbal cover, unfold the landing gear and start the Mavic Air by pressing and holding the button on the battery. Connect your phone and power on the remote to pair the remote to the Mavic Air. There will probably be some firmware updates to do before going forward, so we should do those now if you're on wifi or have unlimited data on your phone.
Step 2: Follow the on-screen instructions to setup your Mavic Air!
Step 3: Agree to the terms and conditions
Step 4: Name your Aircraft
Get creative! I obviously took the easy way.
Step 5: Select Control Mode Style.
I use Mode 2, which is the most widely used layout amongst people that I know - but this is up to personal preference.
Step 6: Select Preferred Measurement System
If you're in The United States, this is probably Imperial. Because we like to be different from the rest of the world. 😛
Step 7: Do You Need Beginner Mode?
If you're new to flying drones, I'd recommend leaving this on for your first few flights. Then once you get more comfortable flying you can take it into regular mode and even sport mode.
Step 8: Confirm Your Account
Step 9: Take the Knowledge Quiz
This is a pretty simple quiz that should go over some key points to remember while flying.
Step 10: Restart the Mavic Air
You're getting close to flying, I promise!
You're Done!
Awesome! Now you're done and can get flying!
